The AbilityOne program

The AbilityOne program is a government program started in 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to hire the blind for making brooms and mops. Their buyer was the US Government. This program was expanded in 1971 to include people with other forms of disabilities. The product line was also expanded into textiles and other products needed by US employees.

Today AbilityOne is the largest employer of persons with disabilities in America. In the area of clothing and textiles, AbilityOne procures contracts for items such as military uniforms, duffles bags, insect net protection, extreme cold weather gear, interment flags plus hats and caps. These items are high quality and meet government standards.

SourceAmerica

SourceAmerica began operating under AbilityOne in 2013. They manufacture more than 500 products and have the ability to run large and small quantity orders. If you need design or prototype work, be sure to keep them in mind.

The International Textiles and Apparel Association

The International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA) started its roots in in the early part of the twentieth century. This organization is comprised of textile and clothing professors from various colleges and universities. Formed to help create standards for the textile industry, this organization works closely with governments to regulate clothing and textile manufacturers. The areas that it represents are:

The United States Fashion Industry Association

The United States Fashion Industry Association (USFIA) was founded in 1989. It lobbies Washington representing the fashion industry for national and international trade. The USFIA keeps a close watch on tariffs and trade regulations that would affect free trade concerning textiles and clothing. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Any concerns about import/export laws and practices can be addressed to this association.

The National Council of Textile Organizations

The National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO) is a group that represents all aspects of the textile manufacturing industry. They lobby in Washington concerning all regulations and laws that would affect anyone that is a part of textile manufacturing.
